Big Girl Stuff

*ahoy, curse word ahead!*

Ugh, yet again I return to do another “har har har I’ve been gone sorry I am a loser” post. I’ve had some big girl stuff to deal with. Nothing that directly involves me, but stuff that I have to be a big girl about.

On that note, I’ve realized that life is short and sometimes hard and I am not letting a minute slip by. Crafting, internet and such has been put a bit on the back burner, and I have been ripping right into living it up. Nothing too wild, mind you, but I am taking full advantage of this year. So that’s where I’ve been. Lots of fart jokes. I’ve got some banal stuff to do today, like cleaning and whatnot, but I will do a for real update, just wait til you see the shenanigans I’ve been up to…

And, before I go:

FUCK CANCER. FUCK IT.

Better Luck This Year?

The other night, my dear husband and I hopped off to the hardware store to get supplies for starting out seedlings indoors. Last year was so dreadful. Cold, wet, windy, nothing grew. We had to BUY seedlings. After PLANTING seeds. It was horrible. All that work. ILLINOIS HATED ME LAST YEAR. We had a terrible crop, I got, maybe 5 tomatoes, about 3 peppers and my body weight in zucchini, because ya can’t upset those apparently. Ridiculous. We didn’t even recoup our loss in paying for everything. Well, we were awful busy last year as well. But STILL. I refuse defeat!

This year, A BEAUTIFUL GARDEN WILL BE MINE! Starting with grow lights!

We already had a bench and light fixtures, we just needed the bulbs and to redneck rig something up. Okay, fine, it wasn’t a true redneck rig job as we did PURCHASE a few things.

LET THERE BE LIGHT!

Crisis 1 averted, now I took my afternoon off to plant the little seedlings. Funny story. I am excellent at hiding things from myself. Could not, for the life of me, find them. Where are they? Probably the last place I look. Obviously. That, I am not even kidding, took me an hour. I’m really good at Easter Egg hiding. *bang head here*

I scooped out some great compost from my worm bin and made mud pies. Because who doesn’t like making mud pies? Packed that into pots and planted three tiny seeds in each. In alphabetical order. Labeling them proved to be useless. I used masking tape and it just bled right off. So I’ll be singing the alphabet.

Lastly, lest you dream of me living in a winter wonderland, for those of you who maybe do not have to deal with 16″ of snow, enjoy how not pretty it is:

It’s not all bad. Have some pretty pictures too:

Is it spring yet? And, who’s starting a garden!?!

Bandano-rama!

I’m still kicking! Oh my oh my have I had a bunch of BORING stuff on my plate. Okay, not all boring, but I’ve been knee deep in research (you know how I am, BE SURE TO LISTEN IN TO THE PRIZE AT THE END!!) on a project I plan to kick off this summer. More about that when the ball gets rolling. Also! I made something! Well, it’s for a certain crafty crocheter who sent me a BEAUTIFUL package of goodies. Her stitches are so neat and perfect, like, you wouldn’t believe. Looking at her stuff in real life is ridiculous. I don’t know how she does it. So, be sure to check out her blog, Tatie’s World, because really, THOSE PERFECT STITCHES! My project for her is actually from my work, at the factory, which I don’t talk about much because, well it’s hobby related, but it’s not my hobby. We make kits. I am not going to spoil the surprise, but we make kits that people put together. Sure, I can tell you what parts go in the box and how to print graphics on them, but I have never put them together. So, I did. Obviously the most spectacular and skill demanding one. Which required pleading for assistance. Because I am an idiot. But it’s all done! Maybe I’ll take home another kit one day and show you guys.

Other than sniffing glue (hint) I’ve been reading up on the summer project and well, being boring. I’ve also been obsessed with bandanas. Omg, working in a factory means you need to keep your hair out of your face and I’ve gotten real tired of the pony tail. So, BANDANO-RAMA!!!

Well, I went junking with one of my friends while my husband was nursing the flu, which I thankfully avoided. I would like to thank good night’s sleep, plenty of water, nutrition and exercise for the skipping of that pandemic. So I found some fantastic vintage scarves at one store for a dollar a piece! I bought three. Duh. While attempting a hand wash (as I do with all my lovely things) the colors started to bleed. Whoa! Got them out of the pool right quick. So now what? Apologies to your grandma, but I’m not wearing unwashed scarves.

I busted out my trusty ironing board and turned it on to HOT. That seems to have killed off enough of the heebie jeebies that I felt more comfortable putting them on my head.

now they even look pretty

wpid-20150213_094635.jpg

I think it’s cute! definitely good for no poo hair!

I’m just a bundle of excitement lately!

Soon, we’ll be starting the seedlings, so there’s that pile of fun, worm bin stuff and I’m almost done with my recovery running (I’m at walk 5 minutes, run 25, walk 5) and hoping and crossing my fingers that I can do a 5k this year. Still no knee problems! Whoot!

What’s Going On?

I hate doing these “well, guys, sorry I’ve been gone for ages hehe here’s what mischief I’ve been up to har har har” posts.

Things have calmed down tremendously, I’ve been focusing a bit on trying to sell some crochet, which has been going mediocre, I don’t have an inventory, so it’s been word of mouth. I post pictures of finished products and tell people I can repeat that for a fee and in a week. I undersold a baby blanket, I sold it for $30, when I could have very well asked much more, but I’m trying to get my name out there. I want to have a demand. But that demands quality and uniqueness. I can’t just make pot holders and I can’t sell things for bottom price.

wpid-20141229_072922.jpg

it was a crochet sweatshop, the customer’s sister, whom the blanket was for, SURPRISE! went into labor early.

Recently, in case you’ve been under a rock, THIS AMAZING THING has been blowing up in the crochet group. I magically ran into Simply Crochet UK issued 25 at my local JoAnn Fabrics. Lord knows, I’d seen that issue about 10000000000 times posted in various crochet groups. I snatched it up, how lucky am I, from Illinois, USA to get such an infamous issue from the UK? I honestly got super lucky. I went in because I had bought some seahorse fabric from another store and forgot thread. I’m an idiot, but a lucky one. I waltz in, grabbed my thread, checked out the magazine rack and POOF! There it was in it’s cowl neck poncho glory. I am starting that, you bet your behind, first thing tomorrow.

wpid-20150104_182434.jpg

my sea ponies tote bag. One for me, one for a friend. It’s how I roll.

And, but of course I got yarn for Christmas, a couple skeins in a pretty purple. I made an infinity scarf, but it’s not my color.

wpid-20150104_151858.jpg

my “not my color!” face

So I originally planned to put it up for sale, but a friend had one of THOSE days and to cheer her up, I gave it to her. Yarn was free, time wasn’t much, friend was very cheered.

My next project is another infinity scarf, this one in colors better suited for me. I’m using two strands of worsted to give it a fuller look and a more interesting color. I’m working single crochets, first in the front loops, then in the back loops (as you can see in my NOT MY COLOR scarf) to create a nice texture. It’s pretty easy. I’m hoping it will catch the eye of people, and maybe lead to a sale or two. Or twenty. Twenty would be great.

I’m still working on my running recovery plan. It got a bit stalled because of the holidays, but it’s going good! I can run 15 minutes (run one minute, walk one minute, repeat) without any pain, which, I’m not kidding, makes me dance on the treadmill.  This is why people don’t talk to me at the gym. I was practically skipping I was so happy. I’m like, the only person grinning like an idiot while running. I just LOVE to run. It’s very satisfying. Also, I’m back to lifting weights. I’m up to 15# dumbells. I was at one point, before my knee decided to poop the bed, lifting 25# dumbells. Sigh, it’s like starting over. But I definitely am stronger.

I’m working on some goofy resolutions, I’ll tell you about them, but I’m going to wait until tomorrow when I have all day to, ya know, write an actual entry and not just ramble. It’s late, I can’t take very good pictures and I’ve got the whole day off tomorrow!

So I hope this satisfies for a bit, and here is a picture of Abraham, who is also known as Mr. Ham Sandwich, warming my towels:

IT’S OVER!!!!

WHOO HOO! Somehow I survived my insane work schedule! Yey!!! I lived! Don’t ask me how. Anyway, I’ve been very busy, obviously. I had an ugly sweater party, which was a riot, made a bunch of tote bags for Christmas, made a baby blanket for sale, still managed to run a bit here and there and a whole pile of ridiculousness! Too too too much to blog about! Also, I injured (mildly) my middle finger at work today so OF COURSE the minute I have time to blog, I’m sitting here wrapped in bandages (maybe a bit dramatic, but really, I clipped myself pretty good, the kind that requires super glue) so it’s kind of a pain to type! So, I’m going to organize my thoughts and get back to you all on Friday, provided I don’t fall to pieces!

Thank you all for being patient, I didn’t expect to be worked this hard! I’m going to come up with some resolutions (I’m so lame) and other fun experiments to try on myself and I’m sure we’ll all have a good giggle.
