Drinking coffee while you wait for everyone to wake up…
It’s a beautiful day. Birds singing, sun’s out. Ugh…wake up, slackers!!!!
You won’t believe the pictures, it’s so beautiful out here. Back to my coffee.
Okay guys, I know I’ve been boring! I’m making potholders and dodging turdnados and working at the factory (omg, we’re making a very pretty train car!) and my seedlings are behaving for the most part. Also I’ve been super stuck on The Stand by Stephen King. I’ve been riding my bike to work, which has been WONDERFUL. I feel much less crabby about work after riding a bike.
But, alas I am…
GOING ON VACATION!!!! WHOOT!!
As of Thursday, I will be gone. Wi-Fi will be available, because, of course it is. I’ll only be able to post from my phone, however. Lame. Well, it would kind of be lame to be all blogging and what not when I’m out in the middle of no where, Tennessee. I need to get one of those tablet things with the keyboard and what not. THIS IS 2015 I DO NOT HAVE TIME TO LUG AROUND A LAPTOP. WHAT, DO YOU EXPECT ME TO BE A CAVEMAN AND USE AN ABACUS? HOLD ON GUYS, LET ME THROW YA’LL SOME MESSENGER PIGEONS.
That got weird. Anyway, I’ll return next week, with I am sure some updates about my trip and then I’ll hopefully have time to get some other more interesting things done.
See ya’ll on the flip side! 😀
Finally I have recovered from vacation, being immediately thrown back into work, 500 loads of laundry and whatever other fires I have been trying to put out! I need a vacation after my vacation!
We went to Oxford, Wisconsin which is the absolute middle of no where. The entire town consists of a hardware store and a dollar store. Unfortunately, I don’t think the economy has been kind to them. You’ve heard of food deserts, right? Imagine your closest grocery store (and frankly, I didn’t see any other on the way there or around) is a freaking dollar store. That’s just what I observed and I hope I’m wrong, but man, it looked bleak. We brought food supplies from home and headed to a campground several miles from the whole 607 people that live in Oxford.
I immediately put on my vacation game face.
It took about 4 hours to get there and the camp is just beautiful. Huge oak trees, a beautiful lake. It’s a bit crowded, I will say, there are a lot of people who leave their RVs there and use them as vacation homes. You don’t have to go far, however, to find yourself in the middle of nowhere.
Step one was to set up the RV, which the future in-laws loaned to us. Nothing too difficult.
uncle eddie sums it up.
And then it was a whole weekend of sleeping, fishing, eating, drinking and having a great time! We actually met a professional bass fisherman, which was pretty amazing. I didn’t know that could be a profession! He was full of great information and I managed to learn something!
Onto our wee little boat!
it’s name is the CIA Waterboarding…too much? too soon?
The boat was phenomenal. Light weight, comfortable to sit in, great to fish in. It was definitely a good investment. There are some lakes around where we live that we can use it on as well.
I did not bring my phone on the boat so I don’t have a ton of pictures of the fish I managed to reel in. It’s pretty exciting to be reeling them in and then there’s the hustle and bustle to either get them in the live well or get them back in the water. Warning: We did eat a few. They were very tasty and mercifully dispatched. I even learned how to do it. I figured it was a good skill to have and it’s not very hard to do. I caught a couple bass, bluegills and sunfish. I did fish on the pier a bit, so I got pictures of them.
this is a bass, i’m even wearing the bass hat our friend gave me! and of course the ancient aliens shirt. also, a picture of my future dude i’ll be married to in less than a month’s thumb. Also, please note that I can wear a hat properly.
I took some more scenery shots,
rocks, why wouldn’t i take pictures of rocks?
All in all, we had an absolutely amazing time! I miss it already, back to work, back to the grind and back to wedding stuff! It’s less than a month away! God help me! I can’t wait til it’s over! 😀
I’m back! Glad to see you all kept busy! I’ll be chatting soon, but I desperately need a shower and to not move for like, the rest of the day…
However! Real quick, five days of no showering and the joy of no poo:
I kept it in braids and under a hat most of the time. Also, I think I need a tag for “wearing ancient aliens shirt” because I swear I am always wearing it when I take pictures
Oh the joys of no poo! My hair looks just fine!
Anyway, I’ll be back when I have showered and recovered a bit. See you all soon!
I’m cranking away on my To Do List. I’ve got a bit of time, waiting for the garden to be watered so I figured I’d hop on and get you all up to date before I leave at noon today.
I also made pitas and we’re taking what’s left of the vienna loaf up in the RV to the Wiz. So we’re good on bread. I have to get groceries today, which is going to be interesting. The list of things to get is probably more processed food than I have eaten in years. Not exactly thrilled about that but I am going to try to sneak as much fruit, veg and nuts in as I can. Also, I am going to make cookies! From my brother’s secret recipe. That’s his youtube link. If you want a giggle, check out his music. It’s pretty good, he’s actually writing the music for my wedding. Nevermind his terrible singing. Oh sure, he can sight sing, which is damn impressive, but he has a bad voice. We both do. If you want to watch suicide rates jump, play me some Neil Young and get me drunk enough to sing along.
you don’t want to hear me sing this…
Regardless, the kid is a musical genius. Seriously, bring him to a party and sit him at a piano and LOLZ will abound.
So, wanna see what else I did this morning?
Since the seedlings were getting better, THANK YOU ILLINOIS FOR FINALLY GETTING YOURSELF UNDER CONTROL, YOU DRUNK, and we’re leaving, I just stuck them in the ground. We’ll see what they’ll do when we get back. I don’t have high hopes, but I didn’t want to just waste them.
The eyesore berm is finally growing grass,
The lilac is blooming! That was a major surprise!
The calla lily is going crazy,
all the lilies bloomed and blossomed, jilted and they’re withering, i can’t stop them shivering, oh this world is a war. I was there for this video. I cried, not really, but shut up 😉 I am allowed to have a moment, right?
And my pussy willow is looking good!
here pussy, pussy, pussy, where can you be? This is safe for work, um, but, um, well it’s technically about a cat, but um, well, um, it’s from the 1930’s and um, well, just listen, ok? you won’t regret it.
And the hops are doing great! I see more beer brewing in out future!
Speaking of beer, the wedding beer is on a second ferment!
got nothin’. well, you might like this but it’s a little more obvious. still 1930’s though.
It’s under a towel because light is not good for brewing beer. It’s pretty! And I did have a taste before we put it under wraps, it’s a fruity delicious beer!
Alright, everyone! I’m off to the Wiz! See you when I get back! 😀
I woke up this morning to a delight:
It snowed. Are you kidding me? Snowing, in mid-May. Is this a terrible joke? We just planted the herb bed and had a few little seedlings start up and we planted our garden after a terrible time getting the seedlings to grow which was DUE to the extreme wind/cold/snow/clouds that are relentless. We’ve literally had 3 nice days this year. Three. Otherwise, wind/snow/clouds/rain/cold and that’s it. I almost tore my hair out.
It has since stopped snowing, so I hope my baby plants will survive. Pretty much all I can do. I was going to tarp them, but by the time I found the tarp and some sticks the snow had died down a bit and the coffee to bulls**t ratio had to be evened out. And then I discovered my french press was cracked! Today is going great! Unable to cope, I dumped the grounds in the kettle and have been straining them. It worked, a little watery, but any port in a storm at this point.
Thanks for letting me get that out.
I also wanted to let you know that I will be going on vacation next week to the literal middle of nowhere. No cellphone reception. Thank God. I am not sure how many posts I am going to be able to sneak in between then and now because I am literally working til the day we leave. So, we’ll see. I want to make some bread for the trip and get some ideas of what to cook for dinners other than hot dogs and brats. Because, ugh. All with chips, I’m sure. For the record, I don’t like chips. Home made chips, sure, but store bought tastes like chemicals and tears. To me anyway. I leave next Thursday to go fishing in the Wiz (I fondly refer to Wisconsin as the Wiz. If you’ve ever been there, you’ll understand) and we are taking the in-laws RV and they are taking my terrible stinky pets. I’m sure the pets will suffer with treats being thrown at them constantly and a disgusting amount of cuddles. My brother claims that you’re not truly camping if you use a RV and I reply that I am old and fat and do not care. Also, he hasn’t been camping in years, so whateva.
The trip is usually a boys only trip, sponsored in part by that guy who I suppose I’ll be married to next month‘s place of employment but every since I strolled in, I’ve been invited. I make sure to bring my hair dryer, tons of nail polish and makeup and complain constantly about bugs, fishing and how bored I am.*
*all of that was clearly a lie
IT’S A WHOLE LONG WEEKEND OF FISHING, CATCHING A BUZZ, GOING OUT ON BOATS, COOKING OUT, GETTING MUDDY, NOT SHOWERING, SLEEPING IN, NO CELL PHONES AND PEEING IN THE WOODS*!!!!!
How is that not awesome? I have a great time every year and finally I learned how to fish, which was something I always wanted to do when I was a kid, but nobody bothered to teach me because I was a girl. Or that’s what I am going with. Sure, I would help when the adults fished, bait their hooks, take off the fish. But no one ever taught me how to do it myself, with my own tackle box and pole. I don’t know, maybe they thought I wasn’t serious. So now I know how! At least enough to get by and I always manage to catch a buzz. We usually catch and release and eat a few of them. Can’t. Freakin. Wait.
Like I said, hopefully I’ll have a few posts between now and Thursday, but if not, I’ll be back at it when I get home Tuesday! I’m sure I’ll have a million pictures for you guys.
That’s all I really have for today, I’ve got to get more of my wedding dress done while the dude is away so I’m off to the sweatshop!
