Amaryllis is Awake! And Some Updates. And goofy videos.

Good morning! The sun is shining, the birds are at the feeder, the amaryllis is in bloom!

wpid-20140307_071409.jpgif you don’t think that is beautiful, go see a doctor

So far two of the six rumored flowers are up! I’m tickled! Also my goofy christmas cactus is producing buds AGAIN, even though it has literally flowered three times this year. It flowers, drops the flowers, goes quiet for a day or two and then WHOOP back to making buds. I don’t ask questions. Better than the misbehavior plants, the aloe vera and the seedlings.

love like yours will surely come my way…do you like Buddy Holly? PRIZE AT THE END!

Speaking of the seedlings, a few brave tomatoes have decided to stop being turds:

wpid-20140307_074555.jpgwhatever. i sow when i want! choo don’t know me!

wpid-20140307_074549.jpgjerks.

I don’t even want to talk about what a bunch of butts the bamboo is being. Not like I really even wanted to keep them, but they are just being brats! Ok, I guess I did traumatize them, but come on. Grow some roots!

On another topic, I am about to get some kefir grains. I  would much rather have Kiefer Sutherland, but ya know. As Mick says:

are you a rolling stones fan? I HAVE A SURPRISE AT THE END FOR YOU!! 😀

On another topic, Aspiring Tranqulista, as she is known on Facebook; I am not going to hand out her real name like candy, is sending me home tomorrow with kefir grains. I did ask her if she had a link for me to link to, but just search for her on the FBooks, she’s there. She doesn’t blog, which is kind of a shame to be honest. She’s very clever.

Regardless, I have a bit of mixed feelings about my new children (kefir is alive) and I hope they get along with Francine. I’ll probably name them, because I am a dork. But they really do best with milk* and I don’t really like milk. For two reasons. One, I don’t like the taste. Honestly. Two, I don’t like how it’s produced. I don’t want to get on a soap box here, but I do really try to avoid eating meat and meat products as much as I can because of factory farming. I’m not going to get into it now, but ugh. But she swears by the stuff, so I am going to at least try it. Worst case scenario, I will give them to someone else. Best case, I can find some relatively inexpensive milk that is not made with tears and beatings. Ok, this got dark. Let’s brain bleach with some cute animals!

*yes, i’ve looked in to water kefir and how to change milk based to water, but as a newbie i’m going to stick with milk until i get the ball rolling…then we’ll see.

BRAIN BLEACH

the best part is how excited he gets! 😀

I am excited to try the kefir, but like I said, we’ll see how it goes. I am always willing to try new things and disregard them if I don’t like them.

Such as my regrow romaine project, I am pulling the plug on that because all the romaine did was bolt:

wpid-20140228_110734.jpgwe’re leaving!

wpid-20140228_110718.jpgi know it’s hard to see, but they went to seed.

I am going to release them to the worms. They will enjoy, I am sure! It was fun while it lasted, but I have enough house plants. I am going to hang on to the celery for a bit.

Ok, fun videos time!

Buddy Holly first, this video cracks me up every time. Listen to the woman introduce the “rock and roll specialists” it kills me every time. “If you haven’t heard of these young men, then you must be the wrong age.” Keep a nice open mind, people! LMFAO!

WARNING, NSFW AHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next we have an under appreciated Rolling Stones song. NOT SAFE FOR WORK. DO NOT PLAY THIS WHEN CHILDREN ARE AROUND. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

Alright, I’m off to the crochet sweatshop! Have a good day!

Plant Hoard Tour

I totally hoard house plants. They’re taking over. I absolutely love houseplants. The more, the merrier! I figured while I wait for my pre-frement to warm up (there’s going to be a LOT of bread going on today! brace yourself!)

wpid-20140210_073654.jpgpictured here under a towel

I would show you around. I’ve tried to identify them to the best of my ability.

i can haz christmas?????

Obviously, there’s my Christmas Cactus, pictured as it is, this moment. Clearly, it needs a calender.

wpid-20140210_074520.jpgi don’t know…

This is a succulent that at one point was very neat and tidy and threw flowers up at me and then it turned into this…I don’t really love pruning my houseplants, I like them a little wild, so I let it be

My mother in law’s tongue, which in no way represents my future mother in law, aside from being lovely.

wpid-20140210_074123.jpgKalanchoe

You might recognize it better with flowers, but I trimmed them off when they got wispy.

wpid-20140210_074617.jpg wpid-20140210_080431.jpg          baby rubber tree, peperomia

This one came to me from a grocery store for a dollar. It was originally in the world’s smallest pot, but it obviously appreciates the space

wpid-20140210_073732.jpgelephant bush keeps watch over the back yard

wpid-20140210_073814.jpgaccording to the pot, it is a “crassula species,” how specific.

wpid-20140210_073804.jpgsedeveria fanfare and a grafted “moon cactus”

The fanfare is a leggy mess, I am not going to lie. That plant lost it’s damn mind. All of the other windowsill succulents are fine, but that one is a brat. I’ve tried moving him, pruning him and all he wants to do is be an idiot.

wpid-20140210_074445.jpgwpid-20140210_074459.jpgaloe vera

That aloe vera is probably the second oldest plant I own, the oldest is a pothos, which is not pictured, but still lives, I promise. I have abused that poor aloe vera, left it in the sun, over watered it, et cetera, et cetera, but it always comes back and even has a pup. I don’t think it’s overly fond of the cold windowsill, but unfortunately that’s some of the best sun we have right now.

Trading French Bread for an Ironing Board…

Did I ever tell you I love my friends? I do. Obviously, who doesn’t? But I have an amazing collection of friends. Yesterday while ironing out my fabric for my skirt on my wee little ironing board, I decided to shout out on Facebook to see if anyone had a real ironing board they would be willing to trade for. At 4 pm I sent the message. At 8 pm, my former neighbor, R, had procured me one by posting the same shout out on her page. How amazing is that? I am trading her french bread for the board and meeting her on Tuesday. I started my pre-frement today.

wpid-20140209_081734.jpgshaggy mess

wpid-20140209_083144.jpgnow we’re behaving!

wpid-20140209_084701.jpgit looks small, but it will grow…a lot…

wpid-20140209_084847.jpghiding it under a towel, a personally crafted bread towel I might add.

Seriously though, I am thoroughly impressed. I figured an ironing board was a long shot. But my former neighbor, not only is she a freaking riot (I can’t wait to see her, honestly) she came through for me! Her and her husband were the best neighbors you could ever ask for. Even her kid, going through teenage years, was absolutely hilarious and well behaved. He’s in the Navy now and I wish him all the best. Now, I am not trying to illustrate them as a bunch of well meaning fuddy duddies. Oh, no, they were literally a riot. Her husband looks like Caption Spaulding. Not even pretending to be kidding you. When I hang out with them I usually spent most of the time trying not to pee myself laughing. They are crass, honest and good people. My favorite kind of people. You can’t buy that.

Some Updates:

Still getting over this cold! Boo! But feeling much better!

My romaine and celery continue to do not a whole lot. Maybe I will plant them in the garden when it thaws. I’ve added another romaine butt and now three celery butts. They’re…doing stuff….

wpid-20140209_122454.jpgcan’t make a salad yet

The amaryllis is really kicking it into gear, thankfully!

wpid-20140209_122535.jpgpictured: not a slacker

And someone needs to tell my christmas cactus that it is not christmas…
